Chapter 66: Chen Bansheng's Nightmare:
Lu Mingyuan was genuinely surprised when his son, Lu Yu, suggested letting Chen Bansheng go.
It was common knowledge that Chen Bansheng had targeted the Lu family because Lu Yu was jealous of him over Bai Qingzhi.
But now, by intervening, Lu Mingyuan was trying to defend his son. In this situation, shouldn't Lu Yu be the one stopping Chen Bansheng? So why was Lu Yu urging him to let the man go?
"Do you really want to let him go?" Lu Mingyuan asked, seeking confirmation.
"Yes." Lu Yu replied with a nod.
Though hesitant, Lu Mingyuan decided to respect his son's wishes.
Sensing an opportunity, Chen Bansheng snorted coldly and hurried out.
He felt relieved, thinking that with Ye Qianrou's intervention, his bad luck had turned around.
"Bansheng, wait for me!" Bai Qingzhi called out, glancing at Lu Yu before hesitantly following Chen Bansheng.
Just as she reached the door, they were suddenly hit with a splash of liquid.
Chen Bansheng, who had just exited the villa, was caught off guard and drenched in the unknown substance.
Though he tried to dodge, it happened too fast, leaving him soaked from head to toe.
Bai Qingzhi was almost hit as well.
Already frustrated, Chen Bansheng couldn’t contain his anger and shouted, "What the hell are you doing?"
Zhou Bin, standing nearby with an arrogant smirk, replied, "I don’t like you. What’s wrong with that? If the young master hadn’t ordered otherwise, I would’ve done more than just throw something at you."
Chen Bansheng, though enraged, realized that with Lu Mingyuan around, it wasn’t worth the trouble to retaliate.
He muttered a threat before quickly leaving the villa, noting with disgust that the liquid smelled like urine.
(Inside the villa)
After Chen Bansheng left, Wu Xianqiang stood up and addressed Li Guohua and Li Yi seriously. "Mr. Li, I need to leave now. I have to look into this matter."
Li Guohua, understanding the gravity of the situation, didn’t press him to stay. "Of course. It's important to get to the bottom of this."
Wu Xianqiang nodded and, after exchanging a few more words, left the villa with his son, Wu Kai.
Following his lead, the other guests also began to say their goodbyes, including Su Qingyue, who left after apologizing for spoiling the banquet.
Lu Yu was focused on dealing with Chen Bansheng, leaving him no time to address Su Qingyue’s departure.
Before she left, Su Qingyue apologized to Li Guohua for ruining the event, but Li Guohua, grateful for Lu Yu’s earlier help, was too pleased by the drama to be upset.
As the guests departed, Xiao Yanmei softly spoke to Lu Yu, "Xiaoyu, we’ll wait for you outside with your dad."
"Alright." Lu Yu replied.
He knew what they wanted to discuss, but he wasn’t in a hurry. He called Qin Sisi and prepared to leave. Just then, a soft voice called out to him.
"Your name is Lu Yu, right?"
Lu Yu turned and saw Ye Qianrou approaching. "Oh, Aunt Ye, hello," he greeted her.
Ye Qianrou felt a twinge of discomfort at being called "aunt," but she kept her composure. "That night, was that you?" she asked.
Lu Yu feigned confusion. "What do you mean, Aunt Ye?"
After scrutinizing his expression, Ye Qianrou smiled. "Never mind. You’re very talented for someone so young. You have a bright future ahead of you."
"Hehe, thank you for the compliment, Aunt Ye," Lu Yu replied, laughing lightly.
"Alright then, I’m leaving too. Do visit me when you have time." Ye Qianrou said with a smile before walking away in her silver high heels.
As she left, Lu Yu's calm expression returned. "This woman is playing with fire..."
(Outside the villa)
Lu Mingyuan was eager to talk as soon as he saw Lu Yu and Qin Sisi come out.
After asking Qin Sisi to wait aside, he pulled Lu Yu into the Rolls-Royce. "Tell me, why did you let him go?"
"Why not? What would we do if we didn’t? Beat him up? Break his hand? Or kill him?" Lu Yu countered.
"I..." Lu Mingyuan was at a loss for words.
He realized there wasn’t much they could do in such a public setting.
Asking the bodyguards to beat Chen Bansheng won't solve anything.
Breaking his hand or killing him would be a blatant disregard for the law, something the state wouldn’t tolerate.
And as for calling the police over a feng shui dispute? The law wouldn’t take that seriously.
"Alright, Dad, leave this to me. I’ll handle it." Lu Yu assured him with a serious tone.
Knowing his son had changed, Lu Mingyuan didn’t press further and let it go.
After dropping off Qin Sisi at her home, Lu Yu drove to a public parking lot, where he took a deep breath, grabbed a backpack, and disappeared into the night.
Meanwhile, Chen Bansheng was having a terrible day.
Although Ye Qianrou had helped him escape a dire situation, Lu Yu's interference had cost him his reputation as a feng shui master.
The most humiliating part was getting doused in what he suspected was urine. Remembering how Bai Qingzhi had looked at him with disgust, Chen Bansheng was seething with anger.
"Damn it! It’s all that bastard Lu Yu’s fault!" he fumed.
Bai Qingzhi had even abandoned him halfway during the taxi ride, unable to bear the smell. The taxi driver had also charged him an extra 200 yuan because of the odor.
Furious, Chen Bansheng returned home, muttering curses under his breath.
Chen Bansheng lived in a luxurious three-bedroom apartment in a high-end community, a place he had purchased with his own money. Though it wasn’t as grand as a villa, it was still out of reach for most people.
As he reached his floor and opened the door to his apartment, a shiver ran down his spine. He dismissed it, thinking it was just the wind catching on his damp clothes.
After throwing his soiled clothes and pants into the trash, he headed to the bathroom.
After a shower, Chen Bansheng felt exhausted.
Too tired to go out, he replied to a few messages before collapsing on his bed and quickly falling asleep.
Sometime later, he began to have nightmares.
His eyebrow furrowed, and his forehead was slick with sweat. His face occasionally twisted in pain.
Suddenly, Chen Bansheng jolted awake, sitting up abruptly. "Phew! Thank goodness it was just a dream..." he muttered, trying to calm his racing heart.
But then, his body went rigid as cold sweat trickled down his back. His eyes widened in fear. "What the...?" he stammered, terror taking over.
Before him, a shadowy figure sat silently on the edge of his bed, staring at him.
