Chapter 94:

Su Changyi's goal in coming here was to ensure that Nangong Yun took charge of the Danqing Pavilion. It didn't matter if she lacked the ability; what mattered was authority. As for power, the Su family had plenty to offer. Of course, openly seizing control wasn't an option.

If Su Changyi had initially offered the Su family’s assistance to Danqing Pavilion, it would have been immediately opposed by Elder Mingyang and others, who would argue that they could handle things on their own.

But now, Elder Mingyang himself had admitted that Danqing Pavilion was in a difficult situation, surrounded by crises.

So Su Changyi's offer of help was perfectly logical.

At this point, if Elder Mingyang and the others refused, it would be akin to openly declaring the Su family's ill intentions. Some things could be understood without being said aloud, but saying them was a different matter.

If the Danqing Pavilion were strong, they could say whatever they wanted. But given their weakness, provoking Su Changyi, the newly appointed future patriarch of the Su family, would be suicidal.

To put it bluntly, Su Changyi was bullying them with his power, though he wasn't saying it outright.

Elder Mingyang and the others understood but could only exchange glances and shake their heads in silence.

"Since the Holy Son has arranged it this way, let's allow Miss Nangong to take the position of Pavilion Master. However, this is a significant matter, so please allow us some time to prepare." Elder Mingyang replied solemnly.

Su Changyi chuckled lightly, "That's fine. Coincidentally, I have some free time and plan to stay here for a few more days. Danqing Pavilion wouldn't be unwelcoming, would it?"

"Of course not. The Holy Son's presence is a blessing for the Danqing Pavilion." Elder Mingyang and the others replied immediately.

"That's good to hear. But don't keep me waiting too long. You know that in less than a month, the Ancient Azura Battlefield will open. If I stay too long, someone from the Great Holy Sect might come to fetch me." Su Changyi said with a meaningful tone.

Elder Mingyang smiled wryly: "Rest assured, Holy Son, this matter will be handled promptly."

The news of the new Pavilion Master of Danqing Pavilion soon spread across the Zhongtian Continent. The major sects paid attention to this ancient power’s internal changes, especially other sects within the Alchemy Dao.

When others heard that Nangong Yun was appointed as the new Pavilion Master, they all doubted the accuracy of their information.

"Nangong Yun? That little girl from the Nangong family?"

The Nangong family's influence wasn't weak, but it was limited to their Dongling and didn’t matter much to the powerful factions of the Zhongtian Continent. However, those who sought to suppress the Danqing Pavilion soon found themselves targeted by the Su family.

Only then did everyone realize that the changes in the Danqing Pavilion weren't as simple as they appeared.

...

In a courtyard, Su Changyi leisurely sipped tea prepared by Jiuling.

"Young Master, someone from the Mingjian Sect is requesting to see you." Old Li’s voice came. "Shall I turn them away as before?"

Su Changyi casually replied, "Yes, tell them I'm in closed-door cultivation."

After Old Li left, Su Ling'er curiously asked, "Cousin, several sects have visited in recent days. Why have you refused to see them? They are all renowned in the Zhongtian Continent. Building good relationships with them could benefit your future as the head of the Su family."

Su Changyi smiled, "You said it yourself; they are all renowned. Why would they want to see me?"

Su Ling'er thought for a moment and said, "They just want to build a good relationship with you by visiting the Danqing Pavilion."

Hearing this, Su Ling'er felt puzzled.

Those forces were strong and wouldn't come just for the Danqing Pavilion. Instead, they heard Su Changyi was at the Danqing Pavilion and came with the clear intention of meeting him.

Su Changyi put down his teacup, and explained calmly, "These people are here for the Great Azura Battlefield."

The Great Azura Battlefield was about to open. At that time, the elite disciples of various sects would enter to compete for resources and inheritances.

Although it would be a competition among the three Dao domains, opportunities didn't differentiate by faction. Even geniuses from the same Dao domain would fight each other for an inheritance.

Su Changyi was hailed as the Supreme Young Master and was now the future patriarch of the Su family. Also, his entry into the Heavenly Saint Realm was no secret. These people came with ulterior motives.

Firstly, they wanted to test Su Changyi's true strength. Secondly, they wanted to make an early connection, hoping for support in case of conflicts within the Great Azura Battlefield.

While there were countless opportunities in the Great Azura Battlefield, it was also extremely dangerous.

Su Ling'er realized, "There are indeed so many sides to this."

Su Changyi smiled lightly and took another sip of tea.

Su Ling'er, despite her strong talent, was inexperienced. In novels, she would be the pure-hearted female lead—genuinely kind, not a manipulative schemer. Su Changyi liked such straightforward characters.

"However, there have been many voices within the Danqing Pavilion lately. Miss Nangong must be under a lot of pressure." Su Ling'er said, changing the subject.

"Pressure is inevitable. Taking over such a large power requires skills. I can only clear the obvious obstacles and ensure her safety. How far she can go depends on her abilities." Su Changyi replied calmly.

Su Ling'er nodded slightly, and said nothing more.

She felt that Su Changyi was far more formidable than she had imagined. His prowess wasn't just in combat but also in strategic thinking, understanding people's psychology, and leveraging his status as the Su family's heir to the fullest.

Was her cousin like this in their previous life too?

Su Ling'er couldn't help but wonder.

Most of her memories of Su Changyi were from their childhood. After he grew up, Su Changyi left the Su family for the Great Holy Sect, starting an unending journey of unrequited love.

If Su Changyi had been this impressive in their previous life, yet the Su family still perished, then their enemies must have been terrifyingly powerful.

"No, the future has already changed!" Su Ling'er reminded herself.

Ye Yuan's death was proof of that.

Su Ling'er resolved to cultivate diligently, no matter how Su Changyi turned out.

In the following days, several more groups visited the Danqing Pavilion.

These weren't the hidden noble families or sacred sects but some 'allies' who had previously had good relations with the Danqing Pavilion but had unilaterally terminated their alliances when the pavilion fell into decline.

Su Changyi wasn't surprised by their arrival.

Sect forces often swayed like grass in the wind, leaning toward whoever had the upper hand.

As the saying goes, there are no eternal friends, only eternal interests—a principle perfectly illustrated in this cultivation world.

Unlike before, Su Changyi didn’t refuse these visitors but met with all of them.

The reason was simple:

The presence of these forces could significantly stabilize Nangong Yun’s position within the Danqing Pavilion.

It was like investors flocking to Danqing Pavilion because of Su Changyi’s presence. These supports were invaluable to the pavilion. Even if the internal members of the Danqing Pavilion didn't want to acknowledge Nangong Yun as their leader, they couldn't deny the benefits, the spirit stones, and the heavenly treasures.

Moreover, not everyone opposed Nangong Yun.

The position of Pavilion Master had been vacant for too long. If it continued, Danqing Pavilion would be doomed within a decade. Nangong Yun’s emergence was a chance for change.

In times of adversity, change was necessary.

Being controlled by the Su family was better than heading toward destruction, right?

  1. Independence is nice, but only if you're strong. If you're weak, it's often better to submit to a stronger force in order to secure a backer. Ideally, of course, one that treats its subordinate forces well.
