Chapter 23: Let Me Bear This Burden:

"Nonsense! Go rest! I will handle His Majesty myself," Su Wanxi declared, using her authority as an elder to forcibly send Su Xinyue away.

Su Xinyue pouted, feeling helpless.

Why did everyone want to take her place?

It was bad enough with others, but even her mother?

If her mother succeeded, what would happen to her future with Ling Ye? If her mother won his favor, any chance she had would be gone.

"Still here?" Su Wanxi's voice was now more stern, and broke the silence.

"Hmph! It's not fair!" Su Xinyue huffed, pouting before turning to leave.

Watching her daughter walk away, Su Wanxi shook her head in resignation. "I'm sorry, my dear. You and His Majesty share a teacher-student relationship, which is already somewhat forbidden. So, let me bear this burden."

With that, Su Wanxi proceeded to Ling Ye's room. She knocked softly on the door. "Is Your Majesty still awake?"

Of course, he wasn't asleep—the lights were still on in his room.

"I've brought some tea for Your Majesty," she continued.

"Come in," Ling Ye's voice replied from inside.

Receiving his permission, Su Wanxi opened the door and walked in. Ling Ye was in bed, apparently preparing to sleep for the night, or perhaps he had anticipated her visit and was waiting for her.

"Greetings, Your Majesty," Su Wanxi said, bowing slightly. Given her minimal clothes, this gesture revealed a glimpse of her fair, smooth skin.

Ling Ye's gaze traveled over her, taking in the sight of her slender arms and proud figure beneath the semi-transparent veil. She had certainly prepared well.

"Your Majesty usually has maids to serve you. Tonight, you might feel out of place at the Su residence. So, if Your Majesty does not mind, let me serve you as your maid," Su Wanxi offered, noticing Ling Ye's gaze. She turned and placed the tea on the table, then poured it.

Ling Ye had seen her front; now he observed her side and back. Standing beside him, slightly bent, the transparent gown clung to her full, round figure.

Her slender, alluring waist added to her undeniable charm, and Ling Ye noticed it all.

The mature, alluring charm she exuded was something not found in younger women.

While she might not be the most beautiful compared to others like Ji Ziru, her mature allure more than compensated for any minor difference.

If asked which type of woman a man would prefer to spend the night with, it would undoubtedly be someone like Su Wanxi.

"Please, Your Majesty." Su Wanxi said, handing the tea to Ling Ye, her moist eyes filled with subtle allure.

Looking at her, Ling Ye could see the deliberate seductiveness in her demeanor. He took the cup and asked casually, "Who is Xinyue's father?"

Su Wanxi's eyebrows furrowed slightly at the question. She responded softly, "I do not know."

"You don't know?" Ling Ye seemed surprised. How could she not know?

"Your Majesty, I have never been with a man. Xinyue is not my biological daughter," Su Wanxi answered truthfully. She hoped this would make Ling Ye less disdainful of her.

Despite not being young, she was still pure.

Ling Ye's eyes narrowed slightly at her response. This was unexpected. She had never been with a man? She wasn't someone's wife? This revelation dampened some of his mischievous interests.

"Xinyue does not know this, so I hope Your Majesty will keep it secret," Su Wanxi added softly.

Ling Ye nodded slightly. She wasn't someone's wife, and Xinyue wasn't her daughter. This did reduce some peculiar interest, but it was still acceptable.

Ling Ye smiled and shook his head, his gaze still on Su Wanxi. "So, you dared to dress like this and boldly come to see me?"

Hearing this, Su Wanxi immediately knelt down, panicking. "That was not my intention. I just... just..."

She struggled to find her words. She had indeed come to seduce Ling Ye, but would he see her as easy going?

Would he think she find him easy to seduce?

She didn't know.

Ling Ye's words made her regret being so direct.

What if he saw her as disgusting?

"I never said you did anything wrong," Ling Ye said with a faint smile, seeing her panic. He leaned closer, and raised her chin gently. "Would you be willing to be my concubine?"

If Su Wanxi had been married, Ling Ye might have seen her as just a passing interest for the night.

But since she had never been with a man, making her one of his concubines was certainly possible.
