Chapter 13: Doing This With Another Guy?:
Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi followed closely behind Xia Yuran and her group.
Xia Yuran and her team noticed their presence but didn’t say anything. After all, there was no rule against walking the same path.
"It seems Ling Kong does care about you after all. He’s just pretending to be tough," Bai Feng whispered. "He's been following us to protect you secretly."
"Hmph! I won’t forgive him until he apologizes properly and makes me happy!" Xia Yuran pouted.
Protect her in secret? She didn’t need it! This won’t be over so easily!
"Brother Bai Feng, carry me!" Xia Yuran suddenly said. Since Ling Kong was watching from behind, she decided to get closer to Bai Feng and the others to make Ling Kong jealous.
"Uh... okay! Sure!" Bai Feng was delighted. It seemed he was benefitting from the fallout between Xia Yuran and Ling Kong. Xia Yuran jumped onto Bai Feng’s back, and he carried her forward.
"Hmph! Compete with me, will you?" Xia Yuran glanced back at Ling Kong. This was the consequence! Ling Kong could have carried her, but now she gave the opportunity to someone else. Hopefully, he would realize his mistake and understand the seriousness of the situation!
On the other hand, Ling Kong paid no attention to any of Xia Yuran’s actions. He and Jiang Ruoxi simply followed openly behind them.
"Aren't you angry?" Jiang Ruoxi asked curiously.
"Why should I be angry?" Ling Kong retorted.
"She... she’s doing this with someone else..." Jiang Ruoxi muttered.
"What does that have to do with me? If you were to do such a thing with someone else, perhaps I might actually get angry!" Ling Kong smiled.
"I..." Jiang Ruoxi blushed deeply. Ling Kong's words left her speechless. Did he really care about me that much?
"If doing that would make you angry... I’ll never do such a thing." Jiang Ruoxi replied softly. Even if Ling Kong was just speaking casually, she decided to go along with it.
Ling Kong smiled lightly. He knew she wouldn’t do such things. Jiang Ruoxi had never interacted with any other man in such a manner. She was genuinely devoted, pure, and perfect both inside and out.
The group continued forward, with Ling Kong never paying attention to Xia Yuran and her antics.
Noticing Ling Kong’s lack of reaction, Xia Yuran assumed he was pretending to be calm. She then had Li Junting and the others take turns carrying her, but still, Ling Kong remained indifferent.
"Hmph! Pretending to be oblivious while secretly following me to protect me?" Xia Yuran snorted. "Senior Brother Li, hold me! I want a hug!"
"What?" Li Junting was shocked but quickly responded, "Sure! Of course!" He picked her up in a princess carry, overjoyed that she would let him hold her.
"Senior Brother Li, are you okay from your earlier injury?" Xia Yuran asked, clinging to his neck and leaning against his firm chest.
"I’m fine! Just a minor injury, fully recovered!" Li Junting exclaimed excitedly. Even if he were injured, he would endure it for this!
"Thank you for doing so much for me, Senior Brother Li!" Xia Yuran said, snuggling against him. "I feel so safe in your arms!"
Li Junting’s smile grew wider. See, men should have strong muscles, right?
"Junior Sister Yuran, you smell so nice!" Li Junting blurted out.
"You bad boy~" Xia Yuran pouted. Seeing this, Bai Feng and the others were envious. They could carry her too; maybe they should take turns?
Ling Kong remained unfazed, allowing Xia Yuran to continue her self-directed drama. He truly didn’t care at all.
"I can hardly stand it, why aren’t you angry?" Jiang Ruoxi frowned. Xia Yuran was going too far! Doing such things with another guy in front of Ling Kong? Even she felt angry on Ling Kong’s behalf.
"I told you, her actions have nothing to do with me." Ling Kong said calmly.
"But..." Jiang Ruoxi couldn’t understand. Wasn't he following her because he cared? Yet he wasn't angry at her behavior? Or perhaps he was angry but hiding it?
Was it worth it? Jiang Ruoxi wanted to go up and slap Xia Yuran but was afraid it would anger Ling Kong.
They continued moving forward until they came upon an icy cave, the source of a stream in the valley, surrounded by frost.
Ling Kong suddenly grabbed Jiang Ruoxi's hand and rushed ahead. This must be the place where the Ice Phantom Wolf cub was. He couldn’t let Xia Yuran get it first!
"Huh?" Jiang Ruoxi was stunned. This was the first time—excluding the time he had intruded on her training—that he had initiated such close contact.
