Chapter 96:
(In the middle of the Great Azura battlefield)
Time passed as one top force after another arrived.
Su Changyu looked around. The forces from the Beiyang continent were the first to arrive, followed by people from other continents. The Peerless Sect, Sword Gathering Sect, and Star Gathering Sect, along with many familiar powers from the Zhongtian continent, came into view.
In addition to these, many small forces from various places and a large number of independent cultivators gathered. The ancient battlefield was a grand event in the Azura Domain, open to any cultivator under a hundred years old. However, entering didn't guarantee one would come out alive. Thus, most small forces and independent cultivators came with the resolve to risk their lives for a chance at fortune.
The ancient battlefield had a rule: every participant was endowed with a certain amount of 'luck.' By killing others or the fierce beasts within, one could seize their luck. This luck was the 'key' to unlocking the opportunities and inheritances inside. In other words, once inside the battlefield, the killing began.
"There are many people who don't value their lives." Su Changyu thought, casting an indifferent glance around.
As the major forces gathered, it was time for the usual trash-talking, a common trope in cultivation novels. However, due to Su Changyu's recent rise, most sects targeted the Absolute Beginning Sect. Among them, the Pleasure Sect was particularly active. Known as the infamous sect of seductresses in the Azura Dao Domain, the Pleasure Sect's reputation made many wary.
The female cultivators not only knew how to elevate men to ecstasy but also how to send them to their doom. Su Changyu had little interest in them. He had seen many seductresses before. More importantly, there were no fated individuals in the Pleasure Sect. His casual glance revealed only mediocre talents with decent cultivation bases but lacking in straightforward combat abilities.
Among the major forces, the Jade Lake Sect wasn't particularly noticeable.
...
Bing Yao occasionally glanced in Su Changyu's direction at the moment.
"Holy Maiden, is that the Holy Son of the Great Holy Sect?" A curious female cultivator beside her asked.
"The Holy Son of the Great Holy Sect, a young supreme," another female cultivator whispered, "He killed the Holy Son of the Ancient Moon Sect. His cultivation has already reached the Heavenly Saint Realm. I wonder how strong he is."
"He is naturally very strong," Bing Yao replied matter-of-factly. "A young supreme dominates his era. If he weren't so young, he alone would be enough for this ancient battlefield."
Bing Yao herself had also entered the Heavenly Saint Realm and, with the help of elixirs and secret arts, had directly made a breakthrough into the Heavenly King Realm. For geniuses like her, who accumulated enough at the Creational Realm, making a breakthrough consecutively wasn't uncommon.
"I heard he has a good relationship with the young lady of the Bai family. You used to travel with Bai Suya, so you should know the Holy Son of the Great Holy Sect, right?" Another disciple asked.
Bing Yao paused and said lightly, "Of course. When he left Bei Yang, I gave him a Netherfire Pearl."
The surrounding disciples were astonished.
"If we meet him inside, Young Master Su probably won't attack us." One disciple speculated.
"Although this is a struggle among the three major domains, with our strength, we probably won't even reach the middle layers, so it's not something to worry about." Another added.
"But what if other sects target us and seize our luck?" One disciple worried.
Bing Yao's lips moved as if to explain, but she ultimately decided against it. At least she hadn't said anything wrong earlier.
Su Changyu had accepted her gift, giving them a chance to mend their relationship.
"Once inside, I need to find him first." Bing Yao thought to herself.
"Daughter, is that Su Changyu?" asked the Sect Master of the Sword Gathering Sect, Bai Yuxiao, from afar, observing the flying boat of the Great Holy Sect. He stood with his hands behind his back, his gaze as deep as the stars, with an aura of tranquility that naturally exuded Daoist charm, like a deity.
Bai Jianyao smiled and asked, "What do you think, Father?"
"Not bad. Though his cultivation isn't high, his aura is steady, and his Dao bones are naturally formed. His bloodline and physique seem extraordinary, deserving of that master's favo." Bai Yuxiao praised.
"That master?" Bai Jianyao asked curiously, "Do you mean Young Master Su's master, Mu Qingshuang?"
Bai Yuxiao pondered for a moment and nodded. "There's no need to inquire too much about her name. Just remember, if you want to befriend Su Changyu, continue to do so. If not, avoid conflict at all costs."
Bai Jianyao understood. If her father spoke so highly, Young Master Su's master was likely one of the top figures in the Azura Dao Domain.
Suddenly, their discussion was interrupted by a dazzling multicolored light emerging from the depths of the Desolate Land. This light, like the northern lights, cut through the dark, bottomless abyss, creating a striking entrance.
"It's open!" someone shouted.
Immediately, many independent cultivators rushed towards the light.
"Remember, once inside, don't trust others easily. If you face a calamity and lose your combat ability, don't push yourself. Even if you have to hide and cultivate for a year, do so," Dao Tianweng advised.
The ancient battlefield would remain open for a year, after which everyone would be forcibly expelled.
"We will remember your teachings," The members of the Great Holy Sect responded, bowing.
"Go." Dao Tianweng instructed.
One by one, figures transformed into streams of light and headed toward the light curtain.
Su Changyu walked leisurely toward it, causing those around him to instinctively keep their distance.
"Am I that scary?" Su Changyu wondered and shook his head slightly.
"Remember my words, cousin." Su Ling'er said before accelerating into the battlefield.
"Young Master Su!" Bai Jianyao flew over on her sword, keeping pace with him.
"Young Master Su!" Another voice called out. Bing Yao approached from behind.
Su Changyu took a step forward, using a shadow-stepping technique, and instantly disappeared into the battlefield. Bing Yao paused awkwardly in mid-air.
Bai Jianyao glanced back, "Do you have a grudge against Young Master Su, Bing Yao?"
"It's none of your business!" Bing Yao snorted, brushing past Bai Jianyao.
Bai Jianyao smiled, unconcerned, and followed into the light curtain.
One by one, figures disappeared into the darkness within the light curtain. After about half an hour, the light curtain began to close, eventually disappearing completely as if it had never been there. Even the numerous divine realm experts present couldn't detect any traces of the ancient battlefield's secrets.
Su Changyu walked in the dark space. There was nothing around him except the sensation of his footsteps on the ground.
"This space is strange." He thought.
Upon entering the ancient battlefield, the first area was a void space, a fact he had heard of before. Su Changyu tried to use a spatial technique to analyze it but found his skills were useless here.
It was unknown how much time passed. When Su Changyu took a step forward, the scene before him suddenly changed.
A golden light beam shot up behind him!
The golden light was dazzling, and faintly, there was a dragon's roar. This was Su Changyu's 'initial luck.' Everyone entering the ancient battlefield would, under the influence of the rules, have their luck manifested. The initial amount of luck varied for each person.
The process of competing for opportunities in the ancient battlefield was about seizing luck from others. The higher one's luck, the greater the chance of obtaining opportunities.
How could one seize it?
By killing, of course.
When someone died, their luck transferred.
However, this luck was merely a manifestation of the world's rules and would disappear after leaving the ancient battlefield.
