Chapter 63: If I Break This Oath, May I Die a Horrible Death!:

As soon as they arrived in the small, dimly lit room, Zhang Mu took the initiative to ask Gu Qingqing, "Do you need any help from me? Or perhaps some resources? Isn’t the selection for the Chief Prosecutor of Capital starting this afternoon? Did you sign up?"

Zhang Mu initially thought Gu Qingqing’s purpose was to use his influence to participate in today’s selection.

However, to his surprise, Gu Qingqing merely smiled and shook her head, politely declining with a clear and pleasant voice, "Thank you for your kind offer, Young Master Zhang, but there's no need. I’m confident about today’s selection."

Zhang Mu laughed heartily, "Good! You truly live up to my expectations, brimming with confidence!"

Outwardly, Zhang Mu appeared satisfied, but inwardly, he was sneering.

'Ha! This little b*tch. Acting again. You scheming little fox.'

He had seen Gu Qingqing's tactics many times in his previous life. She would always first claim she didn’t need his help, using her own capabilities to demonstrate her worth and gain his trust.

Then, later on, she would ask for support, leading to even greater backing from him and deepening his trust in her.

It was a clever strategy—first downplaying her needs, then gradually amplifying them, creating a sort of sunk cost effect.

The original Zhang Mu, a true playb.oy, would never have seen through this.

But the current Zhang Mu was all too familiar with Gu Qingqing’s playbook.

She was a master at playing both sides. So, her words didn’t surprise him.

But her next move did.

In her simple yet elegant white dress, Gu Qingqing—the modest and graceful genius who was also the future Prime Minister—suddenly dropped to one knee in front of Zhang Mu.

Her expression turned incredibly serious, and she didn’t seem to care that her skirt was touching the floor.

Zhang Mu watched, stunned, as Gu Qingqing, kneeling before him, gently took his hand, placing it in her delicate, soft palm. Then, with seriousness, she lowered her head and pressed her rosy lips to the back of his hand in a gentle kiss.

Still on one knee, Gu Qingqing rose her head, and stared straight into Zhang Mu’s eyes.

He heard her speak, her voice unwavering.

"Young Master Zhang, I swear to you."

"For my entire life, I, Gu Qingqing, will always be your most loyal servant."

"It is my honor to serve you."

"If I break this oath, may I die a horrible death!"

"This...!" Zhang Mu's eyebrows furrowed slightly as he stared at Gu Qingqing in disbelief.

What on earth was going on?

Why was she suddenly kneeling on one knee, kissing his hand, and swearing undying loyalty?

It was as if she were a knight pledging her allegiance to a princess.

But he, Zhang Mu, was a notorious p.layboy, not some royal figure!

And more importantly, wasn’t she supposed to be the proud and exceptionally talented future Prime Minister?

Didn’t she feel awkward doing this?

The most crucial thing was that Gu Qingqing was again deviating from the original plot!

Zhang Mu remembered that in their previous life, Gu Qingqing hadn’t been so eager to display her loyalty.

But now, Gu Qingqing was gazing at him earnestly, her beautiful eyes filled with genuine love and devotion.

In their previous life, she had thought her feelings for Zhang Mu were merely the result of having once been his subordinate, needing to follow his lead. Later, when she became the Prime Minister and Zhang Mu fell from power, she believed that what she felt was a twisted sense of possessiveness and a desire to conquer.

She longed to see the once arrogant Zhang Mu kneel at her feet, begging for mercy, just as she had once done.

That was why she cooperated with Ye Feng, whom she didn’t actually care for, to manipulate him while still secretly obsessing over Zhang Mu.

However, after Zhang Mu’s death and her rebirth, during the painful years that followed his death, Gu Qingqing finally understood.

She truly loved Zhang Mu.

She was deeply, profoundly in love with him.

Only Zhang Mu’s kindness could cleanse the darkness in her heart.

As Gu Qingqing tenderly kissed the back of Zhang Mu’s hand, her eyes were filled with deep affection and unwavering loyalty.
