Yet, things had gone from bad to worse—an accident, a traffic jam, and now, being stopped by security.
"CEO Wu? Which CEO Wu?" The security guard asked.
"Who else could it be?" Chen Bansheng responded.
"Then why don’t you give him a call?" The security guard remained firm in his duty to protect the wealthy guests, standing as the first line of defense. If he allowed someone suspicious, what if they turned out to be a threat?
Realizing he had no other option, Chen Bansheng handed his documents to Bai Qingzhi and dialed Wu Kai’s number. Fortunately, the call went through.
"Hey, Wu Kai, are you here yet?" Chen Bansheng asked.
"No, Brother Chen!" Wu Kai replied.
"It’s already half past five, and you’re still not here?"
"I’m almost there, about 10 minutes away. Just wait for me at the entrance." Wu Kai said hurriedly before hanging up when he saw a traffic officer ahead.
Hearing the busy tone, Chen Bansheng sighed but decided to wait with Bai Qingzhi.
"Stop!" The security guard snapped once more, blocking their way.
Frustrated, Chen Bansheng asked, "What now?"
"I said you can’t come in."
"Didn’t you hear me make the call?"
"How do I know who you were talking to?" The guard replied.
"You..." Bai Qingzhi clenched her teeth, and Chen Bansheng, growing impatient, said, "Fine, we’ll wait over there."
They moved to a shady spot nearby.
As Chen Bansheng simmered in anger, "After Young Master Wu arrives, I'll make the security guard kneel and apologize."
According to the original plot, the Li family’s banquet was mainly for Chen Bansheng. Despite being stopped outside initially, Li Yi was supposed to personally greet them and fire the security guard, completing a dramatic scene of face-saving.
However, the Li family’s favor had been snatched away by Lu Yu, and now, Wu Kai was his only support.
