Chapter 29: Simping Gets You Nowhere:
It was a late night.
The moonlight was desolate. In the wasteland, the griffins rested with their heads bowed beneath a withered tree. The campfire burned gently, and the five disciples gathered around it, roasting freshly caught wild rabbit meat.
Ten experts from the Heavenly Dark Sect sat cross-legged beside the mysterious carriage, their eyes closed, motionless, guarding the Holy Son inside the carriage.
“Hey, hey, look what I brought,” said Li Xing, one of the male disciples, grinning as he pulled a small bottle from his pocket. The other three male disciples immediately gathered around, their eyes lighting up.
“Wow, Senior Brother Li, is that salt?”
“Seriously, Senior Brother, you’re amazing. You knew we’d be camping out and even brought salt!”
“Keep it low-key.” Li Xing waved his hand.
Wild rabbits in the wasteland were different from farm-raised ones. These wild rabbits had some level of cultivation, making their meat tough to chew. But with salt, even the driest meat could be flavorful. The four male disciples eagerly began roasting the meat. Soon, a tantalizing aroma filled the air, making everyone’s mouth water.
At that moment, Li Xing glanced at the girl sitting to the side, her face hidden under a hood. He smiled, tore off a piece of rabbit leg, and approached her.
“Junior Sister Zhou, come and eat. This roasted meat smells wonderful.” He said.
The other three exchanged glances and stifled their laughter.
“Who knew Senior Brother Li could be such a simp.”
“Of course. There aren’t many pretty junior sisters in the Heavenly Dark Sect, and Junior Sister Zhou is one of the better-looking ones. Now’s his chance; why wouldn’t he try?”
“Tsk tsk tsk, I feel the same way...”
They whispered among themselves.
Gu Ling’er slowly raised her head. In the dim light, only her chin was illuminated by the flickering fire. She pursed her lips, took the rabbit leg without a word, and stood up, walking toward the Holy Son’s carriage. Li Xing’s face fell immediately, while the other three suppressed their laughter.
“Stop, what are you doing?” Xiao Yong stepped forward, blocking her path.
“The Holy Son hasn’t eaten all day... This...” Gu Ling’er lowered her voice, holding the rabbit leg.
Xiao Yong frowned, took out a mystical needle, and tested the meat for poison. Once it was clear, he took the rabbit leg and walked toward the carriage.
Gu Ling’er felt a bit disappointed that she couldn’t see the Holy Son.
“Holy Son, the disciples outside have roasted some rabbit meat. Would you like to try it?” Xiao Yong asked softly outside the carriage.
Inside the carriage, Xu Ze was munching on snacks and reading through the system. Hearing the voice outside, he lifted a corner of the curtain.
“Oh? Did the disciples make this? Let me try. He said, taking the rabbit leg and taking a small bite. He nodded slightly.
“The taste is okay, but just eating this mystical beast meat won’t be filling. Xiao Yong, take these and share them with everyone.” He said, handing over a box of snacks made by Xiao Lan.
“Yes, thank you, Holy Son.” Xiao Yong said respectfully, and took the snacks.
Xu Ze nodded and continued examining the system interface.
Just a moment ago, the system had issued another random mission: [Within one hour, slay the Wind Wolf King].
Xu Ze wasn't unfamiliar with the name Wind Wolf King.
Wind wolves were common mystical beasts in the cultivation world, known for their speed.
Although most wind wolves were not highly cultivated, they were pack animals, always hunting in groups.
Five wind wolves could easily overpower a cultivator at the Condensation Realm.
Twenty wind wolves could slaughter a cultivator at the Fusion Realm.
Packs of wind wolves posed a significant threat to most cultivators. The Wind Wolf King, a mutated variant, was highly intelligent, with speed, mystical power, and size several times that of ordinary wind wolves. Moreover, the presence of a Wind Wolf King indicated a pack of no less than several hundred wind wolves in the vicinity.
Given the system's random mission, it meant that there was likely a pack of wind wolves nearby.
Xu Ze slightly lifted the curtain corner, looking at the disciples who were oblivious to the danger and still roasting rabbit meat by the fire.
He frowned. He knew that such a large fire and the smell of roasting meat would spread far in the wasteland.
The wind wolves must have already caught the scent of prey and were heading their way.
Xu Ze pondered for a moment.
He didn't choose to warn them.
Instead of searching the wasteland for the Wind Wolf King, it would be better to use the campfire to lure it in and catch it all at once.
However, the ten Spirit Transformation Realm experts around him wouldn't let the Wind Wolf King approach easily. Besides, there were three even stronger secret guards silently protecting him in the dark. To seize the Wind Wolf King's head from them, he would need to think carefully.
Howl~
As Xu Ze was contemplating, a long wolf howl suddenly echoed under the moonlight in the wasteland. The ten Heavenly Dark Sect experts stood up, calmly switching to combat mode. The five disciples were startled by the sudden howl, becoming tense.
"They’re here..." Xu Ze clenched his fist, his mind already forming a plan.
