Chapter 16: Am I Really Afraid of Dying at the Hands of a Demoness Like You?:

Ling Ye's sudden change in expression did not escape Ling Youruo’s notice.

“Haha, are you reaching your limit?” She sneered coldly.

She knew that Ling Ye didn’t have much time left; he was already teetering on the brink of death, with one foot in the grave. He was nothing more than a half-dead man now.

Watching Ling Ye approach death filled her with cold amusement and satisfaction. Ling Ye, on the other hand, forced a bitter smile, swallowing the metallic taste that had risen in his throat.

“Ah, women can really be deadly.” He sighed.

If it hadn't been for their intense confrontation just now, he probably wouldn’t have deteriorated so suddenly. To think that a woman had brought him to this state—what a joke it would be if word got out. But fortunately, Ling Youruo would never spread such a story, and neither would he.

“Do you really not care at all whether I live or die?” Ling Ye suddenly leaned in close, staring directly at Ling Youruo.

Their faces were now less than half an inch apart, so close they could feel each other's breath. Instinctively, Ling Youruo pulled back slightly. No matter how much she refused to admit defeat, she had been utterly bested by Ling Ye in every way.

She let out a light scoff and said coldly, “I wish you’d die right now—the sooner, the better!”

“You really are heartless.” Ling Ye said as he struggled to stand.

Villains really were villains—cold and ruthless.

“What, are you thinking of leaving?” Ling Youruo suddenly grabbed Ling Ye’s hand. “Didn’t you say you wanted to stay? Then stay and let me… watch you die with my own eyes!”

Earlier, she had wanted Ling Ye to leave immediately, but now she wanted him to stay. She truly wanted to witness his death, to see him draw his last breath right in front of her.

Ling Ye was exasperated.

When he wanted to stay, she chased him away.

Now that he wanted to leave, she wouldn’t let him go?

“I’d rather keep my body intact. It’d be humiliating to be chopped up and fed to the fish.” He said, pulling his hand free from hers. Then he turned back to her with a smile and said, “Here’s some advice: when you face off against Luo Xinli, surrender if you can! You’re not her match.”

He had already passed on the three ultimate sword techniques to Luo Xinli, which would greatly enhance her abilities. So, Ling Youruo was indeed no longer a match for her.

However, upon hearing this, Ling Youruo merely sneered, “There’s no such thing as surrender in my book!”

Now, she felt even more confident of her victory, because Ling Ye had helped her complete the Tianyou Technique, elevating her skills to a new level.

“Ah, suit yourself!” Ling Ye sighed, shaking his head. “I just hope both of you survive; otherwise, the world… will lose much of its excitement.”

He knew he wouldn’t live much longer; his time was almost up.

But as for Luo Xinli and Ling Youruo, they both had a chance to survive. He genuinely hoped that both women could live on because he had grown fond of them both.

With them in the world, life—especially the world of martial arts—would be far more exciting.

After saying this, Ling Ye walked straight toward the door.

He didn’t really want to die here.

If he had to die, he’d rather do it somewhere else!

“Are you really not going to stay?” Ling Youruo asked with a cold smile.

“I surrender! I really am afraid of dying at the hands of a demoness like you, okay?” Ling Ye replied with a teasing smile before disappearing through the doorway.

Ling Youruo remained seated on the bed, looking in the direction of the door.

Her stunningly beautiful face held a deep, meaningful smile. Then she withdrew her gaze and focused her mind, slowly beginning to practice the Tianyou Technique.

She was determined not to lose in the upcoming battle. She couldn’t afford to lose!

...

Ling Ye left Tianyou Sect.

He left Tianyou Island without anyone noticing, quietly slipping away.

He even took a few jugs of good wine with him!

He was indeed nearing his limit and had no intention of actually dying on Tianyou Island, let alone at Ling Youruo’s hands. He certainly didn’t want to be chopped up and fed to the fish.

There was still one place he wanted to go!

The Night Mysterious Empire, the Imperial Capital, Tianwu City!

...

There was a major event in the martial arts world!

And, of course, there was also a major event in the imperial court!

The imperial court’s major event started three years ago.

One night three years ago, a man in black suddenly broke into the imperial palace. His goal was to assassinate the current emperor!

The black-clad assassin was incredibly skilled, single-handedly fighting his way through the imperial army. In the end, he broke into the emperor’s bedchamber!

The imperial court had twelve top martial artists, known as the Twelve Stars of Tianwu. They were the emperor’s personal bodyguards, his most trusted and capable aides. Each of them was the best of the best in their respective martial arts fields, with some considered the greatest swordsman or greatest saber master in the world.

That night, in the emperor’s bedchamber, the emperor led the Twelve Stars of Tianwu in battle against the black-clad assassin. The fight was earth-shattering, with sword Qi soaring to the heavens and the very atmosphere changing! Ordinary people couldn’t even get close.

In the end, the bodyguards emerged with the assassin’s sword, declaring that the assassin was dead and the emperor was unharmed.

The assassin had his reasons for targeting the emperor, of course!

The current emperor of the Night Mysterious Empire ruled with an iron fist, upholding the art of imperial power. He weakened, deceived, and oppressed the people, keeping them in poverty and humiliated.

And there was one major obstacle to this despotic rule: the world of martial arts!
