Chapter 89:

Su Ling'er’s master was an ancestor of the Su family who had passed away many years ago, even before Su Haotian became the family head.

Yet, this ancestor occasionally reappeared. Naturally, Su Haotian couldn't easily refuse the ancestor's requests. He knew that Su Changye was also collecting primordial fires, and the Golden Emperor Sky Flame was extremely rare. He had already prepared it for Su Changye.

Now, an unexpected rival had appeared.

Su Haotian used the excuse that the primordial fire was reserved for the future family head to appease the ancestor. However, Su Ling'er was sure to compete for the family head position.

Su Changye understood: "So, Father wants me to make a strong impression at the family meeting without causing discord?"

Su Haotian nodded approvingly, "Exactly. That ancestor rarely intervenes, but with him around, the Su family is secure. It’s best not to offend him. While there are many ancestors buried in the ancestral land, it’s impossible to know which ones are still alive unless they appear."

The living ancestors were the Su family’s trump cards.

"I understand." Su Changye nodded, "When does the family meeting begin?"

"In three days."

...

In a place resembling an immortal paradise, a young woman in green robes sat cultivating on an ice pool. She looked about twenty, with a face as delicate as a lotus and an ethereal presence. Bright red dao rhymes surrounded her, with divine patterns swirling and celestial music resonating around her, making her appear divine.

After about a quarter of an hour, her skin, as smooth as jade, turned even more radiant.

Hissing sounds were heard as flames with the power of the Great Dao burned on the ice pool, creating layers of mist.

A voice echoed from the void: "Your understanding of the Dao of Fire is still insufficient. Without the aid of a primordial fire, mastering that divine power will be difficult."

The woman opened her eyes, which shone like stars, and sighed in frustration. She had tried many times. However, the divine power was incredibly potent and not easy to master.

Each divine power required extremely strict conditions for cultivation. For hers, it required the assistance of a primordial fire.

"To fully master it before the Azura Battlefield opens, I need the primordial fire. I must secure the position of the future family head." She murmured.

"Only by reaching the end of the Azura Battlefield can I glimpse the Law of Time. Then, I can use my dao bone to prove my dao as an Emperor and save the Su family from destruction."

She harbored a secret, one she hadn't shared with anyone.

In a hundred years, the Su family would face a catastrophe, one initiated by her cousin, the current young master. The enemies who would destroy the Su family included one from the Great Holy Sect, one from the Beiyang Continent, and two from the Dao Realms. All of them were exceptionally talented young supremes, possessing terrifying cultivation at a young age.

She watched helplessly as her family members were slaughtered, and her cousin was beaten like a dead dog. Su Ling'er didn't know what happened next because she died, but then she was reborn, returning to the present.

She was determined to save everyone.

She remembered that in her previous life, she had reached the end of the Azura Battlefield by chance and witnessed everything there.

In this life, she had to become stronger, obtain the Golden Emperor Sky Flame, and traverse the Azura Battlefield again!

"Just wait, I will make those who harmed the Su family pay."

The family believed that Su Ling'er had become bitter and withdrawn, focusing solely on cultivation, not engaging with the world or interacting with others because her bone was nearly extracted. However, having experienced life and death, she had become indifferent to these concerns.

Now, she fought for the Su family.

And incidentally, she aimed to save her cousin, who had been beaten like a dead dog. After all, she had always liked her brother since childhood.

...

Three days quickly passed.

On this day, the Su family was bustling with activity.

Many powerful figures who had been in closed-door cultivation for years emerged to witness this historic moment for the Su family. Each selection of the future family head was the most festive time for the Su family.

Even those not eligible to compete for the position hoped that the most capable person would assume the role. The Su family had long thrived on its strength. The ancestral foundation, built over tens of thousands of years, would not be entrusted to a mediocre leader.

In the family council hall, leaders from various branches gathered, waiting for the family meeting to commence. Many talented young members were also present.

"You all arrived early." Su Haotian’s figure gradually appeared at the head of the hall.

The others stood up, and respectfully greeted, "Greetings, family head."

"Please, be seated," Su Haotian gestured.

"Today, we gather to discuss the next family head. Our Su family has a long history, and we value harmony, forbidding harm to our kin. Thus, anyone with the ability can compete for the position."

His gaze swept across the young prodigies, who lowered their heads, avoiding his eyes. The branch leaders remained silent, understanding the significance of today's event. If not for the ancestor's intervention, Su Haotian wouldn’t have hastened this decision. The protagonist of today's meeting was the ancestor's disciple.

As they pondered this, a crimson streak of light fell, and a figure walked into the hall.

"Greetings, esteemed family heads, and elders." Su Ling'er calmly greeted.

"Ling'er, come here quickly." A beautiful woman beckoned her.

Su Haotian examined Su Ling'er, and noticed her cultivation had advanced to the peak stage of the Heavenly King realm, making him even more worried.

He harbored no ill will toward Su Ling'er. She was talented, diligent, and possessed a calm demeanor. Unfortunately, she was a woman, and though women could lead, it was rare. Moreover, she wasn't his daughter, and naturally, he hoped Su Changye would succeed.

"Has my cousin not arrived yet?" Su Ling'er asked in a cold voice.

While everyone was gathered in the council hall, Su Changye had already reached the main hall.

He suddenly paused, staring at the system screen, deep in thought.

[Mission Triggered: Conquer Su Ling'er. Task Reward: Villain Points +1000]

"System, just to clarify, by 'conquer,' you mean winning the competition for the future family head, right?"
