Chapter 34: Are You Afraid of Me?:

"Ah! I should have read more about the original plot back then." Ling Kong sighed, shaking his head.

Don't ask why he read a female-targeted novel—he didn’t actually read it!

It was just so popular that everyone around him was talking about it, so he became familiar with it through their constant chatter. Otherwise, how could a man like him read a novel for girls?

Listening to others discuss the original novel used to make him furious. Why should someone like Xia Yuran be the main character?

Why should Jiang Ruoxi, a girl who endured countless hardships and sacrifices, be the villainess?

It was ridiculous!

But the female readers of the original novel loved it. This was similar to how male readers enjoyed stories where lowly protagonists overcame high-quality villainesses.

Now that he had been transmigrated into this world, he was determined not to let Jiang Ruoxi walk the path of darkness or suffer the pains and torments from the novel.

Conversely, he needed to seize Xia Yuran's destiny because she didn't deserve it.

In the original novel, most of Xia Yuran's fortuitous opportunities came from having a male lead like him secretly helping her.

Without his help, she wouldn’t have obtained many of those opportunities. Other male supporting characters could help her, but not to the same extent. Of course, she was still the 'destined one,' so if he didn’t help her, she might still acquire some luck from other sources. Hence, he had to be cautious.

Ultimately, even if she still gained countless opportunities, he couldn't allow her to surpass Jiang Ruoxi. He had to ensure she never had the chance to humiliate Jiang Ruoxi.

"Ling Kong?" At that moment, a voice as melodious as a mountain spring sounded.

Ling Kong looked down and saw Jiang Ruoxi standing at the entrance of his small courtyard, holding the fluffy Ice Phantom Wolf pup.

"I brought you the reward from the hunting competition." Jiang Ruoxi said, looking up at him with her beautiful eyes.

She usually wouldn’t seek Ling Kong out.

Even if she did, she wouldn’t come to his place. But after everything they had been through, she had mustered some courage.

"Come up!" Ling Kong smiled and gestured for her to join him.

"Oh... okay!" Jiang Ruoxi nodded gently and then gracefully leaped onto the rooftop.

"Sit down!" Ling Kong gestured again.

"Mm!" Jiang Ruoxi obediently nodded and sat down, but she maintained a distance of over a meter from him.

"Are you afraid of me?" Ling Kong frowned slightly.

"Afraid? No!" Jiang Ruoxi blinked.

"Then why are you sitting so far away?" Ling Kong asked, looking at her.

"I..." Jiang Ruoxi's face turned a bit red.

She was a girl, after all. How could she sit so close right away?

Even though she wanted to, she felt shy and hesitant.

Looking at her slightly flushed face in the moonlight, Ling Kong smiled faintly.

She was even more enchanting than the bright moonlight.

He exhaled softly and moved closer to her. Since she was a girl, he needed to take the initiative.

Ling Kong sat right next to Jiang Ruoxi, their arms touching.

Jiang Ruoxi's face turned even redder, and she lowered her head slightly.

He had moved closer to her on his own!

Did he really like her?

Ling Kong looked at her under the moonlight. Her delicate face was white and rosy, with her smooth hair reflecting a slight glow. She seemed perfect.

He took a deep breath, inhaling her faint scent.

She only showed this soft side of her in front of him. To others, she was always as cold as an iceberg, a true cold goddess.

"Have you thought of a name for it?" Ling Kong asked, reaching out his hand to pet the Ice Phantom Wolf cub in her arms.

"A name? I haven't decided yet," Jiang Ruoxi said, her hand also stroking the cub’s fur, occasionally touching Ling Kong's hand.

Each touch made her blush and her hand tremble slightly.

Even though Ling Kong had held her hand before and even visited her room for intimate matters, she still felt her heart race with each contact now, feeling like everything was more real and that Ling Kong truly liked her.

Ling Kong smiled gently.

In the original novel, Xia Yuran named the cub 'Maomao,' which was absurdly dismissive for such a noble little female wolf that would eventually transform into a human. It wasn’t a pet dog. He decided to let Jiang Ruoxi think of a better name.

"Ruoxi?" Ling Kong called softly.

"Mm!" Jiang Ruoxi nodded, then realized, "Ah?" He had called her so intimately.
